Highway 59 Widening Project: Median and Turn Lane Improvements Underway
Work began Monday, June 1, on safety improvements to the two median openings between Cypress Bend Drive and Cotton Creek Drive as part of the Highway 59 Widening Project.
To improve traffic flow and reduce conflicts:
• The northern median opening just south of Target is being converted to a northbound left‑turn‑only.
• The southern median opening near the CMX Pinnacle 14 theater will become a southbound left‑turn‑only, meaning vehicles exiting the theater will be limited to right turns only.
These changes are being made to remove unsafe turning movements, particularly where drivers previously had to cross multiple lanes of traffic.
Turn Lane Additions
• A new northbound right‑turn lane is being added in front of the Clark’s gas station to improve access to Cotton Creek Drive.
• A small divider is also being installed on Cotton Creek Drive to eliminate left turns into Publix, reducing conflicts caused by traffic backing up at the Highway 59 signal.
Upcoming Paving Work
Once median and turn lane improvements are finished, crews will repave the existing southbound lanes from Target to the Holmes Bridge. All paving and striping will take place at night to minimize disruptions.
